In George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, Jon Snow is about 16 years old during the events that wrapped up Game of Thrones' fourth season on television. His half-brother, Bran, is about 10. The actors portraying the young men are now 27 and 15.
While the show has slightly aged up the characters, you can see the problem here. Soon, the actors are going to be nearing middle age, while their characters, and their characters' motivations, will be held in a teenage stasis. It's an issue.
While we're sure HBO is aware of this issue and has at least some kind of solution in mind, we find that nothing motivates people quite like a good visual.
