'Grand Theft Auto Online' Goes Live With Server Problems

Rockstar Games just launched the Grand Theft Auto Online multiplayer option, which is free to download for players who have GTA V. After going live Tuesday, many players experienced delayed load times as servers struggled to handle the rush of users.

"For those trying to get into GTA Online today, please bear w/ us on some day one tech connection issues that we’re working to stabilize asap," Rockstar wrote on Twitter.

The Rockstar Support website lists these known issues with GTA Online:

Occasional "Rockstar Cloud Servers Unavailable" error message

Freezing sometimes while loading into first race in GTAO with "waiting for other players" on the screen

Intermittent "Failed to Host a GTA Online Session" error messages

Race Corona (start area, marker) occasionally not showing up for first race

Errors saying "Timed out when matchmaking for a compatible GTA Online Session to join"

Occasional errors about jobs failing to start or load

General issues with the Social Club site and Social Club features (slow loading, failed logins, emails not arriving, etc)

Once the issues are fixed Rockstar said GTA Online -- which works on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 -- will allow players to create a completely custom character. Players will be able to select characters' gender, what their parents look like (and if they have dominant genes), along with several lifestyle behaviors such as how much sleep they get, how hard they work and play as well as how much crime they engage in.

Players will gain cash by engaging in a variety of criminal activities and jobs, just like the single-player Grand Theft Auto V, with more content being added at regular intervals, according to Rockstar's news wire. They'll be able to build a headquarters, customize cars and load up on weapons and clothes. There is also in-game cash that can be purchased, but Rockstar made a point to say it wouldn't help players get an advantage over one another.
