Grandparents are known to spoil their grandchildren with presents, homemade cookies and one too many pinches on the cheek.
Now add Snapchat to the mix, and you've got grandmas and grandpas sending presents and cookies in emoji form.
DoSomething.org partnered with Mentor Up for the "Grandparents Get Wired" campaign to teach seniors how to use their smartphones to connect with their families and prevent isolation. Young people who sign up are sent tips on how to teach their grandparents how to use social media apps like Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook -- along with how to text with emoji, video chat, take selfies and (yes) listen to voicemail.
People who sign up for the campaign and upload a photo that shows how they taught an older adult how to use a smartphone will be entered to win a $10,000 scholarship. Take a look at some of the submissions so far; the campaign runs through Jan. 31.
