Granicus Gets $10M for Government Webcasting Tools

Granicus is a company that provides webcasting and public meeting management solutions to the government, and the company has just announced a $10 million Series A round of financing from JMI Equity. The funds will go towards sales, marketing, product development and customer support. As part of the deal, JMI Equity general partner Peter Arrowsmith (cool name) has joined Granicus' Board of Directors.

[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]As a company, Granicus offers up a suite of solutions including licensing models for governments to work within fixed budgets for things like unlimited bandwidth, audio/video streaming, and monitoring systems maintaining the availability of content for a widespread audience. Being the government and all, there's probably a good amount of custom needs that certain bodies require for webcasting and public meeting solutions, which can lend to varied capabilities on Granicus' end. In my experience in dealing with the government side of implementing a particular technology, customization is a high priority (often a prerequisite), and it's often difficult for either end, whether it be the government lending its technology or the other way around, for all the pieces of the puzzle to fall into place.
