Throughout his trial for domestic abuse and the legal appeals that followed, NFL star Greg Hardy has never seemed remorseful.

After he returned to the NFL this year following a suspension for beating a woman named Nicole Holder, his girlfriend at the time, Hardy said he couldn't wait to play the New England Patriots because he was stoked to see Tom Brady's wife, the model Gisele Bundchen. Before his first game of the year, he said he wanted to come out "guns blazing," without any visible recognition that maybe he should have chosen different words, given he was suspended in part for tossing Holder onto a futon stacked with assault rifles.

So when Hardy let out a two-tweet apology for his past after Deadspin published photos of a bruised Holder on Friday...

Just had to say I express my regret 4 what happened in past and I'm Dedicated to being the best person & teammate that I can be— Kraken&theNightmares (@OverlordKraken) November 8, 2015

but mostly I am Grateful 4 the opportunity to play in NFL #GodBlessHookyStreet— Kraken&theNightmares (@OverlordKraken) November 8, 2015

...it wasn't surprising when people didn't think he was being genuine.

@baebllr408 @MLG_Chakras @noemy654_lola @OverlordKraken Greg Hardy didn't defend himself from shit. Anyone who thinks he did, is a joke.— David Wales (@Aiervon) November 8, 2015

@EricaGo27213813 @IMMisanthrope @PHLSportsFan we all believe in 2nd chances...after being held accountable & paying price for the 1st one.— Hair (@SHannitysHair) November 8, 2015

Not sure anyone can take u seriously, @OverlordKraken. You express regret ONLY AFTER photos become public. The real you shines even brighter— Crash Gladys (@CrashGladys) November 8, 2015

Not that Hardy needs to express any regret to get back on the field or anything.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones defended his star defensive end even after the photos came out. He's called Hardy a "leader" and has said he'd like to sign him to a longer contract.

The NFL also reduced Hardy's initial suspension from 10 games to four, and his record of domestic violence was expunged just days ago.

He'll be on the field Sunday night when the Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles.
