Grindr for Android, compatible with devices running Android OS 2.1 and higher, offers a photo- and location-centric male browsing experience, just as the other applications do. Users also can participate in mobile chat sessions with other nearby Grindr members and initiate cross-platform meetings.
A premium version of Grindr, costing $4.97 a month, removes the banner ads, loads more guys to choose from, includes message notifications while the application is running in the background and increases the amount of favorites a user can have.
In the two years after it launched, Grindr has grown to be a not-so-underground hit among gay men in urban areas -- more than 56,000 users are in the New York area. The service currently sees 3,000 new users join each day, and the average user spends 1.3 hours using the app on a daily basis.
