Global news organization Reuters was the subject of a hack on Friday that "compromised" its blogging platform, according to the company.

Reuters announced the hack via Twitter on Friday afternoon:

...and fabricated blog posts were falsely attributed to several Reuters journalists. We are working to address the problem. (2/2)— Reuters Top News (@Reuters) August 3, 2012

Among the fabricated posts was a false blog posting, purporting to carry an interview with the head of the Free Syrian Army Riad al-Asaad that was posted on a Reuters journalist's blog page on Friday, according to the company. "Reuters did not carry out such an interview and the posting has been deleted," the company tweeted on Friday.

A Reuters rep offered the following statement about the incident: “Reuters.com was a target of a hack on Friday. Our blogging platform was compromised and fabricated blog posts were falsely attributed to several Reuters journalists. We are working to address the problem.”
