Halo 5: Guardians arrives on Oct. 27, and it's bigger than ever.

On the story side of the game, Guardians follows two squads of four characters, one led by Master Chief and the other by Jameson Locke, a Spartan who first debuted in the Halo: Nightfall mini-series.

The Halo 5: Guardians campaign continues the series legacy for cooperative play in the campaign, with up to four players able to group up at any time (or drop out at any time). From the sound of things, the story jumps back and forth between Chief's and Locke's squads.

A brief selection of campaign footage revealed a sharper looking Halo than we've ever seen before. It also offered some hints at what's to come, including looks at familiar series elements like the Arbiter, a friendly member of the antagonistic Covenant, and slug-like creatures that could point to a return for Halo's alien zombie race, the Flood.

Developer 343 Industries also revealed a new look at Halo 5's multiplayer, the Warzone mode. This 24-player fragfest ratchets up the map size considerably -- four times what they've been in the past -- and seemingly takes a page from the Titanfall playbook, with AI-controlled enemies populating the battlefield alongside other human players.
