Ridley Scott's take on the Halo universe will focus on a weaponized virus able to wipe out the human race, according to the series first trailer, released Wednesday.

Digital series Halo: Nightfall follows a new character for the franchise, Agent Jameson Locke, through several episodes. Locke, played by Mike Colter, will also appear in the upcoming game Halo 5: Guardians as a pivotal character.

Locke and other USMC members are up against the alien race the Covenant, who are a prevailing enemy in the Halo universe. The trailer shows glimpses of them, as well as weapons and armor fans will recognize, including an energy sword.

Halo: Nightfall is one of two live-action Halo series currently being produced by Xbox; the other is a project being directed by Steven Spielberg. Nightfall will be delivered to fans as part of the Halo: Master Chief Collection on Nov. 11. That collection includes four previous Halo titles remastered for the Xbox One, as well as an invitation to the Halo 5 beta.

The first episode will also be streamed a day before the Master Chief Collection goes on sale, at HaloFest in Hollywood.
