'Hamilton' cast rises up for powerful Grammys performance

They did not throw away their shot.

The cast of the insanely popular musical Hamilton performed the show's opening number, "Alexander Hamilton," for the Grammys, live from the Richard Rodgers theater in New York City. Late Show host Stephen Colbert introduced the performance, promising it would be extra special.

"This is like nothing you have ever experienced," he said.

From there, the cast took the stage, cheered on by a live audience. Leslie Odom Jr. opened the number to excited applause, which morphed into deafening cheers when Hamilton star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared.

The musical went on to win the award for Best Musical Theater Album, which Miranda accepted by rapping out a thank-you speech. Naturally.
