Hands can tell you a great deal about a person -- his or her personality, health, experiences and more. While palm readers meticulously study skin ridges and finger lengths to conduct a reading, a lot can be said through a simple photograph.
Last week, we challenged you to tell stories through artistic images of hands. Tua Marika, a designer and photographer who has mastered this technique, was our guest host.
"Hands are so expressive, thats why I enjoy photographing them," Marika said. "A simple touch can be more meaningful than a word."
Below, we've rounded up Marika's favorite photos, chosen from a large pool of submissions. "I was really impressed by all of the different and creative approaches to the subject," she said.
1. Plant hugger
Marika says: I love everything about this photograph. The frosty color of the leaves is so unique and the hand is placed so beautifully and elegantly in the picture. Lovely little details too; love the simple bracelets on the arm. Such a stunning shot and a perfect capture of the theme!
2. Sheltered in a delicate world
Marika says: This image is so delicate and tender. The way the flower rests on the ethereal hands makes me think of affection, care and love. Such a stunning shot.

Marika says: Love this minimalist shadow play. Really great composition and scale. Very interesting approach to the theme. Also loved the caption of this image. Nicely done!
4. I'll tell you my sins
Marika says: I love the different contrasts used in this image. The strong black and white graphic elements together with the delicate pose of the hand holding the plant make this photograph really stand out. For me, the image evokes thoughts of vulnerability and openness. Gorgeous shot!

Marika says: I really like the mood in this one. This picture makes me smile!

Marika says: This one is so cool! The photographer was in the perfect place at the perfect time. The alignment, composition and scale are all spot on. Amazing picture and a great interpretation of the theme.

Marika says: I love the tones and the textures in this picture. I don't bake, but I really adore the people & hands that do. Yum! This image captures the theme very well.

Marika says: The use of light creates a lovely atmosphere in this photograph. Simple, elegant and gorgeous composition.

Marika says: Just wow! Love how the light paints those ripples from the surface of the water onto the hand in this underwater shot. Very creative approach to the theme.
