Will Harry die in the last book? We vote no, but it's really inconsequential for publisher Bloomsbury: either way, it's going to lose its cash cow once the last Harry Potter book is published in July. Bloomsbury says it will counteract the decline by getting into the new media biz: launching a "MySpace of books" to keep readers interested.
An article in the UK's Independent on Wednesday says that Bloomsbury is seeking outside funding to build the site, which will follow in the footsteps of YouTube and Bebo.
Meanwhile, the publisher has also made "a small initial investment for a controlling stake in a start-up that is being developed by a San Francisco-based team." The site is expected to launch later this year, and we're going to assume it has a literary focus (why wouldn't it?).
