New York-based company AfterShokz has debuted a line of unconventional headphones that use bone conduction technology to deliver sound waves directly to a person’s inner ear. This innovation improves the wearer’s experience as it doesn’t drown out ambient noise so you can remain aware of your surroundings while listening to music.

AfterShokz headphones are powered by military special ops bone conduction technology and claim to offer consumers a more comfortable, healthier, and safer listening experience. They sit just in front of the ear and deliver sounds through the listener’s cheekbones. Direct vibration of the bones in the head carry the sound waves directly to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrums.
