Helena Bonham Carter Plays Cruel Matchmaker in 'Great Expectations'

Even when Helena Bonham Carter lands a role outside the creative control of Tim Burton she's unable to escape her trademark ghoulish makeup and rotting costumes.

In the latest trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic Great Expectations, she plays Miss Havisham, a woman so broken by being left at the altar that she stopped living at the moment she was stood up, choosing to stay in her decaying wedding dress, watching the dust collect.

Miss Havisham becomes a sadistic matchmaker for her adopted daughter, Estella, and the story's protagonist, orphaned Pip. She urges Estella to hurt the love-struck Pip as she was hurt. But when a mysterious benefactor leaves Pip a substantial bit of wealth, he moves to London to "be raised as a gentleman." The film stars Jeremy Irvine, best known for his role in War Horse, as Pip, and Holliday Grainger as Estella.

And for those playing "spot the Harry Potter character in the British film," Great Expectations boasts Bellatrix Lestrange (Bonham Carter), Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane), Lavender Brown (Jessie Cave), Rose Weasley (Helena Barlow) and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes).

Great Expectations will hit theaters in limited release on Nov. 8.
