Hiroshima pays tribute to bombing victims with hundreds of colorful lanterns

On Thursday evening, hundreds of Hiroshima residents and visitors gathered to honor the 70th anniversary of the city's bombing by U.S. forces during World War II.

The Peace Message Lantern Floating Ceremony kicked off at dusk, According to BBC, as attendees wrote messages of peace on lanterns that were lit and set afloat on the city's Motoyasu River, passing by the Atomic Bomb Dome -- a memorial site for victims of the bombing.
