Boston University students just got lucky -- and they didn't even need any Felix Felicis.
Graduate interns Michelle Goode and Jamie Klufts concocted the magical idea to incorporate references from Harry Potter to teach sex education to students. Goode and Klufts held the seminar on Thursday as part of "Frisky February," a safe sex education project at BU.
According to the Facebook event, 80 students attended the 90-minute seminar. The event was prefaced with the question, "Ever wonder what it would be like if Hogwarts taught Sexual Education?" Discussion topics included consensual sex and sexually transmitted infections (STI).
Discussing wizardry and magic was a tool to help BU students with their sexual health in the real world as well. "A lot of students entering college don’t actually get a foundation in sexual health, so we are going back to the basics,” Klufts told The Boston Globe.
BU's student health services also had plenty of Harry Potter-themed snacks (and puns) to keep the conversation fun. Because even in the wizarding world, you need a little ice breaker before a serious discussion about STIs and birth control.
