The holidays are upon us in all their family-gathering, hair-splitting, eggnog-downing glory. So, naturally, some of you might be thinking of getting away from it all. Far, far away.
If that is indeed your inclination, here’s a brief run-through of some Web-based services that can get you free of the Ma and Pa and Granbaba (what else would you suggest we use to rhyme the lot?) and out into the wild unknown. Or, you know, just someplace a tad less excruciatingly dull than where you are right now. We hear it’s a good bit warmer a few thousand miles of south o’ the border, relative to the snowy (brrr…) parts of the States. Mmm. Warmer. Must. Get. Warmer.
Putting aside the financial dealmakers and dealbreakers for a moment, how about we (meaning you) begin to think destinations. There are plenty of ‘em, as we’re sure you’re aware. How to choose? Milan or Minsk? Bali or Brussels? Options, options, options.
That is unless you prefer a chain-linked lifestyle, in which case there are plenty of specious options available all across this great land. (We won’t name names. Except HoJo. Which we mentioned above. And here once more.)
As much as we wish we wouldn’t have to speak of this next option, we have to. Cruises. Yes, cruises. Those most frustrating, discomforting, and widely despised of seaborne ventures. Sailing’s one thing. An extensive ride on a sweet luxe yacht’s another. Carnival, however.... Yeah, no. We’ll pass, thanks.
Lastly, we speak to the wannabe travelers. Uh huh, you know who you are. Mr. Southwest’s-too-much. Mrs. I’m-a-workaholic-and-have-not-a-minute-spare-for-play. For your bunch, we direct you to Everywhere Magazine. No, it’s not as much a mainstay as Outside. But it’s new. It’s fresh. It’s something a little different. And it costs only a few measly (worth-less) bucks.
Alas, you’ve reached the end of our travel site roundup. Surely we’ve missed quite a few that you may have bookmarked in your Internet travels, so we plead now for your own recommendations. You know where to dish ‘em.
