D'oh!

Homer and Marge Simpson, everyone's favorite TV couple, are splitting up on The Simpsons.

Al Jean, the show's executive producer, recently revealed details of their separation in an interview with Variety.

"In the premiere, it’s discovered after all the years, Homer has narcolepsy and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage," he said. "Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham."

So not only are they splitting up, but Homer is falling in love with a 29-year-old? That stings.

The news comes soon after Harry Shearer, the voice actor behind Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns and Seymour Skinner, announced he was leaving The Simpsons after 26 years.

It's a tough time to be a Simpsons fan.

Plenty of other surprises are in store for the show's upcoming 27th season, according to Jean. Spider-Pig will make an appearance, and Sideshow Bob will do something "he's wanted to do for 25 years." Meanwhile, one episode will spoof Boyhood by featuring flashbacks and flash forwards of Bart's life. In addition, other voice guest stars will include Katie McKinnon of Saturday Night Live and Dixie Chicks singer Natalie Maines.

No word yet on how Bart, Lisa and Maggie will take their parents' impending separation. Probably by binge-watching a ton of episodes of The Itchy and Scratchy Show.
