Umbrella City: Thousands still camp in Hong Kong's streets

The protesters who have brought the streets of downtown Hong Kong to a standstill for weeks are commemorating one month since police first fired tear gas into the crowd.

The action marked a major turning point of the movement, drawing international attention to the student-led demonstrations, dubbed the Umbrella Revolution. Thousands are still camped out on the streets, taking turns occupying rally sites overnight. For those who remain, the occupation shows no signs of ending, as the camp takes on a more permanent feel.

Protesters are calling for the removal of Hong Kong Chief Executive Cy Leung, and they want Hong Kong's government to prevent Beijing from screening candidates for the territory's 2017 election.
