HopStop, a service that has helped me navigate many-a-mass-transit-system in my forays into major metro areas, is reporting some big traffic numbers and a fresh round of angel financing. The company now claims to be reaching 1.5 million visitors per month, who are loading 8 million pages and being served 25 million ads.
[img src="" caption="" credit="" alt=""]While those are formidable numbers for a growing startup, HopStop faces major competition from Google, who through its Google Transit offering is servicing more than 40 cities, versus just the 8 current locations where HopStop can be used. On the other hand, HopStop is a bit more full-featured, including one option that I have really enjoyed on my trips to New York: the ability to get walking directions.
