You know using a smartphone right before going to sleep is unhealthy, but you still find yourself checking Facebook and Gmail long after getting into bed. You just can't help it.

A luxury hotel in Germany knows this is probably the case, and implemented a simple solution: a switch that disables the wireless in your room.

The Villa Stéphanie spa resort in Baden-Baden uses a copper grid in the walls as well as special wall coating to block the wireless signal after you flip the switch, the Financial Times reports.

Of course, you could simply turn off the Wi-Fi on your phone, or opt not to use it. But that's not always as simple as it sounds; a recent study likened some aspects of Facebook overuse to drug addiction. So a switch like this could help reduce your urge to check your feed just one more time.

According to Frank Marrenbach, the chief executive of the Oetker Collection, which owns the Villa Stéphanie, about half the guests of the hotel have used the Internet kill switch feature at some point during their stay.

Update: Mashable contacted the hotel, whose head of PR told us the switch has been installed with the opening of Villa Stéphanie in January 2015. All 12 rooms and 3 suites in the luxury Spa at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, part of Villa Stéphanie, have the switch, which is free of charge for guests.

“We all need to learn more how to deal with this in a healthy way," Marrenbach told the FT. "In the 1950s, nobody was bothered about smoking because everybody smoked. Now when you see people smoking these days it comes across vulgar."
