Well, sort of. Unlike Office Max's holiday campaign Elf Yourself, which lets you import your headshot, Hotels.com's app merely lets you choose from a group of pre-selected characteristics, like eyes, hair, ears, etc. After that, the brand wants you to post your creation to your Facebook wall or Twitter and then enter to see if your avatar will make it into a Hotels.com commercial.
As an added plus, the brand will pick eight weekly winners (based on the number of votes they receive) from now until February 25.
The brand has been running ads featuring its clay characters since 2009 with an animated spokesman called "Smart," voiced by actor Ed Helms of NBC's The Office. Vic Walia, senior director of brand marketing for Hotels.com, told Adweek at the time that the characters were designed in the style of Aardman Animations, which is best known for its Wallace & Gromit series.
