LONDON -- Things I've learnt from working with U.S. editors at Mashable:

Americans don't have fortnights. They don't know what abseiling is. They've never heard of lorries.

There are a lot of words that form the English language that don't translate in other English-speaking countries outside the UK. Pavements always trip people up, lifts raise confusion and, as Oxford Dictionaries point out, jumpers, brollies and rubbers all tend to baffle, too.

The wordsmiths have created a quick test to see how well you know your British English. How many can you get?
