The new Apple Music streaming service comes with a three-month free trial as a way to entice users. Get them hooked early on and they'll be more likely to cough up money to subscribe to the platform.
Whether Apple Music isn't for you or you don't want to pay for the service after the three months are up, you can cancel the service right now and still use it for the duration of the trial period. Canceling your Apple Music subscription is easy to do, but here's a step-by-step guide to make the process even easier.
How to cancel on iOS
There's a user account avatar on the top left corner of every page of the new music app. Tap it, and you'll be brought to an account page.
Once there, tap 'View Apple ID.' You'll be prompted to enter your Apple ID password. After you've done so, you'll be taken to yet another account settings page.
Under Subscriptions, click "Manage." You'll see a list of everything you've ever subscribed to on iTunes or the App Store. Apple Music will be near the top, too, listed as "Active." Tap on Apple Music.
The next page reveals details about your Apple Music subscription, including when your free trial ends. There's also a toggle next to "Automatic Renewal." Click "On," and you'll get a prompt asking if you're sure. After selecting "Turn off," you're good to go.
How to cancel on iTunes
With iTunes, the process is similar. Click on your avatar on the top right side of iTunes and a drop-down menu will appear. Select "Account Info."
Once again, you'll be prompted to enter your Apple ID password and you'll encounter another account settings page. Scroll down, until you see "Subscriptions," and click on "Manage."
Here, you'll see a list of your subscriptions and an edit button to the right of your Apple Music subscription.
After selecting edit, turn off the automatic renewal feature on the Apple Music subscription page.
Apple makes sure you're ready to cancel by asking you one last time if you want to turn off the option.
If you change your mind and miss Apple Music after your trial has ended, you can still go back to these pages and turn the subscription back on. After all, that's exactly what Apple wants you to do.
