HTC Reportedly Planning to Launch Two Windows RT Tablets

HTC has two Windows RT-based tablets in the works, Bloomberg reports citing people familiar with the matter.

One of these will be a full-fledged 12-inch tablet, while the other is a crossover, 7-inch device that will be able to make phone calls, the report claims.

If the report is true, the 7-inch device would be the first tablet of that size for Windows RT. It'd be interesting to see how such a device would compete with the iPad mini and small, cheap Android tablets.

HTC also had a Windows 8-based tablet in the works, but gave up on that idea as its price would be too high.

These new products are planned for a Q3 2013 release, Bloomberg's sources claim. Even if that is true, HTC's stance towards Microsoft's platforms remains somewhat ambiguous. A recent report claimed HTC dropped plans for a large-screen Windows Phone-based smartphone, as it decided the maximum allowed resolution for WP8 devices -- 1280x720 pixels -- would be too low for the device to be successful.
