Finally, someone has set the world straight on how to eat the Australian spread Vegemite.

Australian actor Hugh Jackman taught Jimmy Fallon a lesson about the yeast extract that Aussies love to love and everyone else loves to hate on Monday night.

It is all in the preparation. You must get two pieces of white toast, cover them in butter and spread the Vegemite on real thin. "It's not like Nutella, you can't just scoop it on, it's refined. Just a little bit," Jackman said.

Jackman's tips for consuming Vegemite like an Aussie:

The timing: "You've gotta have it on toast, first thing in the morning."

The toast: "Lightly, beautifully toasted."

The butter: "Just a nice thin layer of butter. It has to melt in. Perfect butter, not too hard."

The Vegemite: "See this [shows small portion], maximum Vegemite. No more than that."

The result: "Much better, tastes like salt. That was fantastic," Fallon admitted.

For the record, here are all the ways Wolverine and Australians would advise you not to consume Vegemite:

1. Shoving the entire jar down your throat in one mouthful

2. Don't smell it before you eat it

3. Don't spread it so thickly

4. And whatever you do, don't eat it without butter
