On Oct. 31, a team of rescuers freed a 35 to 50 foot long humpback whale that was entangled in hundreds of feet of fishing line. The rescue took multiple attempts and spanned from Newport Beach to San Diego. More than 230 feet of remaining line was cut in the three-hour final attempt. The SeaWorld rescue team believes they were able to cut enough of the gear off of the whale for it to swim away and survive, officials said. [Additional reporting by the Associated Press]
