Lorde may never be a royal, but she's the perfect ruler for Lionsgate, which has tapped her to curate the Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1 soundtrack.

The 17-year-old "Royals" singer will not only select the artists who will appear on the soundtrack, she will also write and lend her vocals on the first single.

Lionsgate, Republic Records and Songs Music Publishing revealed Lorde's involvement in the franchise on Thursday, just days after releasing the first official Mockingjay trailer.

"I sat down with Lorde on the set of Mockingjay this spring and I was immediately struck by how she so innately understood what we ... were trying to accomplish with the film," director Francis Lawrence said in a statement.

The two previous Hunger Games soundtracks featured a slew of heavy hitters in the music industry, including Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Maroon 5, Christina Aguilera, Arcade Fire, Miranda Lambert, Ellie Goulding, Sia, Imagine Dragons and more. Lorde, who delivered a song on the second soundtrack in 2013, may well bring back a few of those musicians, like her Twitter pal Taylor Swift, but we'll have to wait to find out.

"Her immense talent and keen understanding of Mockingjay’s characters and themes not only have enabled her to create a song of her own that completely captures the film’s essence," Lawrence added, "but her insight and passion for our project make her the perfect creative force to assemble the other songs on our soundtrack."

The soundtrack will come out this fall, while the film will hit theaters on Nov. 21.

Lorde exploded into stardom last year with her massively successful "Royals" single, and she carried that momentum into 2014, winning two Grammy Awards.
