Brace yourselves east coast, Hurricane Joaquin (Phoenix) may be headed your way.

Although it is still a bit early to forecast where Hurricane Joaquin will end up, the jokes about its name are already beginning, using the only famous person sharing the same name: Joaquin Phoenix.

The NYPD and plenty others shared what appears to be the first of possibly many Hurricane Joaquin Phoenix memes on Thursday, using the viral pic as an opportunity to warn New York City of the potential dangers as the storm progresses.

#HurricaneJoaquin could possibly impact our area. Find out if your in an evacuation zone at http://t.co/RZMcmOvzrg pic.twitter.com/OojNPV4dwk— NYPD 108th Precinct (@NYPD108Pct) October 1, 2015

This is the first time the name Joaquin has been used as a tropical cyclone since the name Juan was retired in 2003. Deadly or costly storms names, which are overseen by the World Meteorological Organization, are retired for reasons of sensitivity.

Six lists of names, one for each letter of the alphabet, are rotated and recycled every six years. So this year's list of names will be reused in 2021.

Update: October 1, 2015, 1:37 p.m.: Mashable has learned that comedy group The Flama is responsible for the Joaquin Phoenix meme.
