Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure game that feels like a direct descendant of challenging titles from the 16-bit era. It's set in a beautiful sci-fi world where only some pieces of technology remain.

After the game made a splash on Kickstarter in October 2013, the indie team at Heart Machine are putting their money where the hype is. They offered backers (and some press) a chance to play the preview build. We check it out on our new What to Play series on the Mashable Gaming YouTube channel.

What to Play is a weekly show where Mashable writers kick the tires of promising new video games and let you decide if they're worth playing. If you want more hands-on gameplay footage of up-and-coming titles, be sure to subscribe to Mashable Gaming on YouTube for a new video every week.

What: Hyper Light Drifter (Preview Build)

Price & Release Date: TBD

Platform: PC, Mac, Linux, PS4, Vita, Wii U and OUYA
