Today's big rumor: IAC may by in the process of purchasing high school social network MyYearbook. So the site that gained initial popularity in part because of its Quiz widget on MySpace and the marketability of CEO Geoff Cook's younger siblings Dave and Catherine as founders, how much is the site worth?

Should IAC incorporate MyYearbook into its family of social media, I imagine it would be a way to help curb any effect of Facebook, often considered an "older" version of MyYearbook. But would that even be necessary? Perhaps this would be part of IAC's larger plan to break apart its monolith and offer smaller, focused pockets of web properties.

Considering the large number of web 1.0 sites in IAC's network, this could be its attempt to bulk up its social networking efforts. As MyYearbook has reportedly grown significantly in the past 10 months, touting a faster US growth rate than hi5, Tagged, MySpace and Bebo as of June 2007, the acquisition of MyYearbook could actually help IAC in its new efforts to divide and conquer.
