Record snowfall turns Iceland into a winter wonderland

Iceland, despite its name, is not always covered in snow and ice. But in December, Reykjavik had a record snowfall for the month with a total 42 cm (16.5 inches). That broke the previous December record of 33 cm. set in 2011.

Fresh snowfall can make most places look magical, but that seems to be especially true in Iceland.

Photographer Iurie Belegurschi, co-founder of online travel marketplace Guide to Iceland, took these shots to show just how astonishing this winter wonderland has become.
