It's strange to think Icona Pop is just getting ready to debut their first album. The band released "I Love It" as a single last May and, in 2013, it became a ubiquitous pop anthem. Now the pressure is on for them to deliver with a whole record.
The band announced Tuesday that This Is... Icona Pop will come out on Sept. 24 and streamed their new single "All Night" to begin promoting the album.
While there was something charmingly punk-rock rock about "I Love It" (Titus Andronicus recently covered it and called it "the quintessential punk song of 2013."), there's no danger in "All Night." A vague promise to keep the party going pairs with glossy production in a melange that sounds pretty interchangeable with other pop hit-makers -- Miley, Carly, Britney and the like.
That said, it's a catchy tune that should place Icona Pop solidly on the Billboard pop charts. Punk bands won't likely be vying to cover "All Night" anytime soon -- but that was probably never the girls' goal in the first place.
