The videos themselves were skinned with a theme different than the standard, plain YouTube videos; now, iDesktop.TV has decided to expand this option and turn it into one of the most important features on the site: creating a customized, branded video player with several advanced features.

This part of iDesktop.TV is currently in beta testing, and the devs have been kind enough to create a custom player for Mashable, which you can check out below.

iDesktop.tv

This is just one example of what you can do with iDesktop.TV's tools; you can also create a pop-out player, and several variations of a "video wall", which is a table with video thumbnails; when the user clicks on a thumbnail, the player opens. Finally, you have the option of creating a flash only player, which doesn't use javascript and can therefore be embedded on any website.

The customization options go pretty far which you can see on the examples page; basically, there's almost nothing you can't do, and the look and feel of your player depends on your design skills and imagination. However, the YouTube videos themselves can only be changed to a certain extent, and some elements of your video player will always be limited by their design. Another important feature is the ability to customize ads, which can be placed at start, between or at the end of a playlist.

As far as content goes, you can take videos from a YouTube user, channel, featured videos, top rated videos, or you can simply display results of a keyword search.

iDesktop.TV's biggest drawback is its dependence exclusively on YouTube videos; but this may not be a problem, if you already use YouTube for storing your videos. All in all, if you want to create a customizable, branded video player for your blog or a website, iDesktop.TV is a good solution; it's got a lot of flexibility and plenty of options.
