Artists Andreas Bhend and Samuel Bernier teamed up to take do-it-yourself to another level.
Having some previous success using a 3D printer to create replacement lamp shades for an IKEA lamp, they received a request to do something new, and they were happy to oblige.
Andreas traveled to Paris to work alongside Samuel, who was working at a 3D printing shop startup called Le FabShop. Having previous success with a stool from IKEA called the Frosta, Andreas decided to use that as the starting point for their next creation.
After a bout of brainstorming, the two came up with the idea of a bicycle. The only tools at their disposal were pliers, a drill, a metal saw and a 3D printer. The last item might have given them some added flexibility when it came to actual implementation of their idea, but it’s no reason to deny them credit for the innovative idea in the first place.
The artists have also created instructions for building a sled using the same set of materials. You can find them on Le FabShop’s website if you consider yourself the DIY type and fancy a challenge over the weekend.
