LARGO, Fla. — The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office in Florida has gone to the dogs. Well, at least its rugs have.

Department spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda said Wednesday that a new, $500 rug at the sheriff's administration building said "In Dog We Trust" instead of "In God We Trust."

The forest green rug with the sheriff's yellow badge was in the entrance area for a couple of months when the error was discovered Wednesday by a deputy.

Barreda says the error was made by the rug manufacturer and it's in the process of being corrected. A second rug did not have the misprint.

The rugs were rolled up and put away Wednesday. It's not clear if the new carpet smell had worn off.

But not everyone wanted to get rid of the rugs. Some offered to even buy it on the department's Facebook page, according to The Tampa Bay Times. Facebook comments about the rug appear to have been removed.

"I know it sounds odd," one person posted according to the newspaper, "but I'm a great dog person and really find that a rug like that would be wonderful for my dogs to have for beds."
