On Sept. 25, 1987, Rob Reiner invited film goers to the fictional land of Florin for a romantic adventure filled with sword fights, outlaws and undying -- or mostly undying -- true love.
In the 25 years since its big screen debut, The Princess Bride has developed a following with a dedication to the film that rivals Westley’s devotion to Buttercup. Honoring the movie with anything less than an André the Giant-size tribute would be inconceivable.

Fezzik might have had superhuman strength, but actor André the Giant actually had back problems at the time, which prevented him from lifting anything heavy. In the scene where Buttercup jumps from the castle window into Fezzik's arms, co-star Robin Wright had to be attached to wires because he couldn't support her.
Director Rob Reiner would laugh so hard during Billy Crystal's scenes, it would make him feel nauseated. He eventually had to leave the set before Crystal was filming.
The giant rodents were actually actors inside rat suits. On the day of filming when Westley (Cary Elwes) was supposed to battle the giant rat, the actor inside the suit was pulled over for speeding and subsequently arrested. The filmmakers had to bail him out of jail so the scene could be filmed.
Elwes was shooting on top of a tall grassy slope, surrounded by a huge slab. André the Giant couldn't walk up the hill, so he drove a rented small four-wheeler and threw Elwes the keys to try it. Elwes went over a rock, which got caught between the pedal and his foot, and broke his toe. The shoot couldn't be delayed, so a special shoe was made for him, and you can see him limping in the scene where he runs into the swamp.
Whoopi Goldberg campaigned for the role of Princess Buttercup, but was turned down by a laughing Reiner. "They thought it was the stupidest thing they'd ever heard," she told EW in a 1992 article. Robin Wright went on to play the iconic princess, and three years later, Goldberg got her revenge in the film Ghost.
