In Germany, the annual Mud Flats Olympics took place. There, participants played football, handball, volleyball and sledded in the muddy tidal flats common to northern Germany. Hindu devotees in Secunderabad, India, celebrated the Bonaju Festival at the Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple. The festival honored the goddess Kali with offerings of food and dance.
Indonesians also celebrated the traditional Water Buffalo Race, in which competitors enjoyed free time in between the end of harvest and the start of planting season. In Italy, as part of Carrara Marble Weeks, young artists began covering a 1:1 copy of David, the famous Michelangelo statue, in tattoos. In Barcelona, Spain, high diving and other water sports took place during the 15th FINA World Championships.
