A 16-year-old Indian cancer survivor overcame the odds to score 96% in his class 10 school examinations, despite missing school after being diagnosed with leukaemia and undergoing chemotherapy sessions last year.

Raghav Chandak, a resident of Kolkata, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in April 2015, which made it difficult for him to attend classes for most of the year. Chandak spent one-and-a-half month in the hospital for his treatment, and had to go for week-long sessions of chemotherapy.

While Chandak’s father lauded his determination and fighting spirit, the teenager credited his school and teachers, many of whom held special classes to guide him. His cousin, who studied in the same class, also gave him notes to study from. Chandak plans to study computer science after graduating from school.
