The San Francisco-based enterprise, which is in the process of being bought by Facebook for around $1 billion, announced the figure on its blog, stating, "We’re humbled by the amazing photos from people’s lives we see every day on Instagram, and thank you for being part of this growing community."
Launched in October 2010, Instagram only passed the 50-million user mark in April. Adoption was hastened by the introduction of an Android version of the app in March.
