Attention Instagrammers: You no longer have to do math!
The single most annoying thing about Instagram is that it displays a photo or video's upload date as so many "weeks" ago as opposed to the date. Change is finally coming. Over the weekend, we noticed the Instagram app now shows the exact date (month, date and year) a post was published on both our own and other peoples' posts.
So far, it appears the update is slowly rolling out to users in the background, so if you don't see it yet, be patient. We've reached out to Instagram for an official comment on the new change.
Here's what it looks like:
[img src="http://admin.mashable.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/instagram-exact-date-mashable.jpg" caption="On Android (left), the pic still shows it was posted "75w" (75 weeks ago). On iOS (right), the exact post date." credit="Raymond Wong/Mashable" alt="instagram-exact-date-mashable"]
As you can see in the screenshots above, being able to see the date a post was published sure beats having to calculate what 75 weeks ago was.
Previously, the web version of Instagram let users see the exact date posts were uploaded. Instagram changed that to "weeks" sometime late last year to make it consistent with the app.
Users who are seeing the change are also elated:
I love that you can now see the exact date of posts on Instagram— Buffy (@evangaline_) March 14, 2016
This new Instagram update where the time stamp is hidden stinks but the fact that you can now see the date a post was uploaded is a blessing— Jonah Sachs (@JonahSachs13) March 13, 2016
