An epic pillow fight swept the globe Saturday, as people gathered in public squares and parks to batter each other with pillows. Feathers and fluff flew all in the name of fun.

And yes, it looked just as awesome as it sounds.

From Toronto to London and New York, thousands turned out for International Pillow Fight Day. Some even showed up in their PJs:

The event attracts tens of thousands of people in more than 100 cities each year, according to PillowFightDay.com, which says the day was created to encourage people to use public spaces in urban areas.

Hundreds gathered in front of Toronto City Hall, swinging and smacking their way through the large crowd. For those taking part in the fluffy fun, this is what the pillow fight looked like:

Meanwhile in London, hundreds participated in Trafalgar Square. Animal-rights group PETA was at that particular event to try to convince people not to use feather pillows, but for the most part, International Pillow Fight Day is just an excuse to get out and have fun.

In New York, swarms of people descended on Washington Square Park for the event:

Newmindspace, which organized the Toronto and New York events, listed participation rules on its Facebook page for the NYC event. They include using only soft, feather-free pillows. The group also encouraged people to leave their used pillows in a donation truck at the site.
