Internet Minute of Silence Declared for Sandy Hook Victims

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy declared a national moment of silence to honor the victims of last Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, which will be observed at 9:30 a.m. EST Friday.

It didn't take long for an online-specific campaign -- Web Goes Silent -- to spring up. The web effort calls for a five-minute pause from online activity. While Web Goes Silent hopes you won't tweet, post on Facebook or check your email, it's using the hashtag #momentforsandyhook to build support in advance.

More than 100,000 people have already pledged to participate on Causes.com, including Britney Spears, Suze Orman, Sean Parker and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey.

The campaign also created web badges (you can grab the embed on Causes.com), to help Web Goes Silent gain steam.
