Apple's iOS 8.1, which will be unveiled on Monday, will include Apple Pay (which will also launch on Monday), its mobile payments platform and bring back the Camera Roll.

The latest version of the operating system will also include a public beta of iCloud Photo Library, which allows users to store photos from across devices in their iCloud account.

The update will also mark the official rollout of Apple's payments platform, Apple Pay. At launch, it will be supported at dozens of stores-- including Macy's, Walgreens, and McDonald's-- and 500 banks.

iOS 8, released last month, has already been installed by nearly 50% of iOS users, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, Apple's Craig Federighi announced during Thursday's event.

The high adoption rate comes despite some early problems with the operating system, most notably the disastrous iOS 8.0.1 update, which Apple pulled after users reported problems with cell usage and Apple's Touch ID. Apple later fixed the issue in a subsequent update but users have still been unhappy with some aspects of the operating system, especially the removal of the iPhone's Camera Roll.
