If you waited to download Apple's latest mobile upgrade, iOS 8, you're not alone.

Research from Tapjoy found that within the past 18 hours or so, iOS 8 adoption lags behind that of iOS 7 and iOS 6 over a comparable period. The company's data pegs the iOS 8 adoption rate at around 6%, versus 15% or so for iOS 7.

The analysis, based on 200 million iOS devices, shows that many are sitting out the update so far. That may have something to do with the fact that the new OS requires 5.7GB of free storage space to be completed. Plus, unlike iOS 7, the upgrade also doesn't look dramatically different from the previous iteration. (Although it is, in fact, quite different.)

As 9to5Mac notes, other researchers have found similar adoption rates so far. Fiksu pegged iOS8 adoption at 7.92% after the first 18 hours versus 17% for iOS 7 over a comparable period. Mixpanel had iOS 8 adoption at around 14.25% at the time of writing, compared to around 40% for iOS 7 during a comparable amount of time.
