Apple finally let us know when the latest version of iOS, iOS 9, will be released: Sept. 16.
iOS 9 includes a suite of performance enhancements, along with a set of new and revamped apps. The software will be compatible with the iPhone 4S and newer and the second generation iPad and newer, including all of the iPad Mini models. The new iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will ship with iOS 9 installed.

With iOS 9, Apple has upgraded Siri's role in the operating system. The assistant is more powerful than ever with contextual search and proactive suggestions that use your previous behavior to predict the information you'll need before you begin a search.
The new Maps app has been greatly improved, with better search and support for public transportation directions. The release also marks the official debut of Apple's new News app, which offers a personalized feed based on the topics and publications you're interested in.
The operating system also comes with a revamped Notes app, a new Wallet app and support for Apple's CarPlay. iOS 9 also marks the first time Apple will support multitasking features like split screen apps and picture in picture video, which will be available for the iPad Air 2.
Apple also promises iOS 9 will allow you to squeeze as much as three extra hours of battery out of your device with a new low power mode. Anyone with a device running iOS 9 will be able to take advantage of the new low power mode, regardless of which model they are using.
