The next generation of Apple's diminutive tablet has arrived in the form of the iPad Mini 4.

Apple's follow-up to last year's iPad Mini 3 offers much of the same as the last model in terms of looks, but with a few key differences.

The new iPad Mini 4 is essentially the innards of the iPad Air 2 packed into the smaller tablet.

Specifics weren't revealed, but according to Apple, the new Mini packs the "power and performance" of the iPad Air 2. That "should" mean a 64-bit chip (the A8X) and the M8 motion co-processor (the specs of the iPad Air 2).

Apple spent most of its time introducing the much-larger iPad Pro and the new Pencil device, two developments that promise to make the iPad a newly robust challenger to the likes of Wacom, which has a strong hold on the table art creation market.

The new iPad Mini 4 features the same case dimensions as the previous model and is priced the same at $399.
