Mobile advertising network AdMob is using the iPhone 3G hype to tout some numbers for its iPhone-specific advertising units. The network, which went live about a year ago, has now served 249 million ads in total, growing steadily since launch:

Most of those ads come in the form of demographic targeting on the mobile Web for advertisers like Land Rover, Jaguar and Fox. Here's an example of the ads the company runs for Land Rover:

Of course, the next frontier of iPhone advertising will likely be hyper-local, given the GPS capabilities of the 3G device. AppLoop is a recently launched startup looking to take advantage of just that.

Overall, AdMob served more than 3 billion mobile ad impressions in May. The company provides a detailed metrics report on its web site, including detailed on traffic and handset marketshare in different geographic regions. It’s embedded below:
