Exotic dancers are some of the most exploited professionals by their managers -- and they're not equipped to advocate for their own rights.

Researchers from the Sociology Department at the University of Leeds found that dancers at UK clubs don't know their rights, which is why they don't act on them. To address the problem, they created an iPhone app,

" target="_blank">Dancer Information, to teach dancers about staying safe at work, and how to have positive relationships with management and customers.

The team spent two years researching misinformation in the industry, surveying some 300 female dancers. Their findings showed extreme financial exploitation, in which the dancers were forced to pay hundreds of pounds in fines and lost their commissions for arbitrary reasons, such as chewing gum or using their phones.
