Last month Ireland's capital city of Dublin was gifted a four-story tall mural of two men entwined in an embrace on the side of a building and now, just days away from the country's vote on gay marriage, the same artist has created another larger-than-life depiction of love. This time, though, it's in a very rural, traditional setting.
Artist Joe Caslin, who created the two murals, installed the new four-story tall piece of art on the side of a 15th century castle in Galway over the weekend, according to The Irish Times.
Irish people will go to the polls on Friday to decide whether or not they want to legalise gay marriage. It's the first time any country has held a national vote on the issue.
“The images that I wanted to show are things that are dignified,” the artist told the paper. “To show love, that’s essentially what it is, the equality that people should have no matter what sort of a relationship they’re in.”
Like the Dublin mural, this biodegradable piece of art took many hours to create before it was blown up by a printer and glued to the side of the castle using a potato-based adhesive.
Last month, Caslin, who is also a teacher, told Mashable about his plans for the second mural.
"We want to get it out of the city, because I think a referendum will pass much quicker in the city than in a rural environment," he said. "It's not a capital referendum; it's a whole republic referendum."
Recent polls suggest that the referendum will pass but support for the campaign against it has grown since the start of the year.
